Gary Rosin has a new post, "Do We Need More Law Schools," up at Law by the Numbers, which charts the growth in the number of law schools from the early twentieth century to today. There are now 199 law schools with ABA accreditation or provisional accreditation.
One thing that's a little hidden here is the number of law schools in operation; I'd be interested in knowing how many law schools there were in 1925, for instance. My guess is that only a small percentage of the schools in 1925 were ABA accredited. So the growth in schools may look a little more dramatic over time than it actually was. However, there's no denying that a lot of law schools have opened up recently. And, as Rosin points out, more are on the way.
