Calvin Massey

As you probably know, Professor D.H. Hill, a West Point graduate and Mexican War veteran, later became General D. H. Hill, one of Lee's divisional commanders in the Army of Northern Virginia.


Calvin--I didn't know this. Very exciting. I need to add Hill to my list of antebellum academics who become officers, including Thomas Cobb of Georgia, about whom I'll talk next week.
