SU College of Law played an important role in the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court. The American Bar Association (ABA) Committee on the Federal Judiciary appointed SUCOL to review Sotomayor's body of written work, including judicial opinions, articles, and speeches, over 500 in number. SUCOL had previously participated in a similar capacity for the nomination of Justice Alito. The other law school reviewing the Justices' work was Georgetown.
Each professor on the reviewing committee reviewed writings in their respective fields and wrote an individual report. Associate Dean Lisa Dolak, in turn, wrote a summary report of the professors' findings.
Professors participating in this role were Dean Hannah R. Arterian, Lisa Dolak, Aviva Abramovsky, William C. Banks, Jeremy Blumenthal, Keith Bybee, Sanjay Chhablani, Evan Criddle, David Driesen, Gregory Germain, Margaret Harding and William Wiecek.
