The AP is reporting that Dr. Jim Yong Kim will be Dartmouth's next president. Dr. Kim, age 49, is a former director of the World Health Organization's HIV/AIDS department and heads the Global Health and Social Medicine Department at Harvard Medical School. He was educated at Brown (B.A. 1982), and holds a Ph.D. (in anthropology) and MD from Harvard. Among his many honors, he received a MacArthur "genius" award in 2003.
Many congratulations to Dartmouth and to Dr. Kim.
No word yet on President Kim's views on Dartmouth Law School.
Update: The comments to a short story about President Kim at The Dartmouth Review's website suggest that he's going to be open to discussion. The comments are generally very positive--he sounds rather Obama-like, actually: youthful, charismatic, has a big tent, is going to try to move forward in a way that includes everyone....
