As we celebrate the victory that is President Barack Obama (yay!!!!), California, Arizona and Florida stand as sharp reminders of battles yet to be won.
Here's the outcome of each state's proposal to ban gay marriage:
- Arizona: 56% - 44%
- Florida: 62% - 38%
- California: 52% - 48%
It was only two years ago Arizona voters rejected a similar effort to ban same-sex marraige. What happened this time?
Meanwhile, the outcome in California puts 18,000 same-sex marriages performed there in legal limbo pending the outcome of a series of court challenges.

California is especially bizarre and hard to understand, since they passed, overwhelmingly, a law against animal cruelty. Now, I'm all in favor of animal rights, but how can you in one breath be so compassionate towards farm animals, and be so awful to your fellow human beings? I can only shake my head.
