Today's Chronicle brings news of a series of lawsuits filed by relatives (though perhaps not, as the Chronicle suggests, descendants) of the founder of Tulane's Newcomb College. Newcomb College is (or maybe I should say was) Tulane's women's college, which was closed in the wake of Katrina. It turns, apparently, on an interpretation of her will and the terms of her gift to Tulane. (The Times Picayune has a story on it here.)
I'm in Philadelphia at the moment and have only the most basic of internet access, so this is a lot briefer post than I'd like. I'll be back on this story once I return to Chapel Hill. For right now, I'll just say: legal historians who work in trusts and estates (which is a great many of us), start your engines!
