There has been a lot of web chatter about a recent proposal, approved by the University of Oregon Law faculty, requesting that raise money be diverted from faculty members to fund Oregon alumni jobs. The resolution stated:
The faculty recommends that the dean proceed with conversations with the Provost and the President regarding: reallocating funds for proposed faculty merit raises toward student fellowships, with a focus at present on post graduate student fellowships. If this proposal is approved, the faculty will revisit this reallocation of funds after two-three years.
If you're one of the few people not yet familiar with one professor's objection to the proposal, and the process of its adoption. you can read more about that here. The more substantial news, however, is that the University of Oregon administration has apparently rejected this request. Oregon Law profs will get their raises after all.
Bravo to those Oregon Law faculty who got being that resolution.
