I'm guessing that the monument is on the site of the Battle of the Wilderness, which involved the Mass. regiment of which future SC Justice O.W Holmes, Jr. was an officer. The movie was The Magnificent Yankee.

You're outstanding, Calvin! The monument is at the Bloody Angle and the movie is The Magnificent Yankee. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it a couple years ago and there was Justice Holmes visiting it with his wife. I'm thinking that they filmed on location.
