Clinical Professor
The University of Richmond School of Law seeks a full-time clinical faculty member to develop, run, and teach a clinic that would provide non-litigation legal services to small businesses, entrepreneurs, non-profits, authors, and artists on business transactions and intellectual property issues. I want to add two things here. First, those of you who did not grow up in the middle Atlantic may not have had occasion to learn about how absolutely fantastic Richmond is as a place to live -- it's a wonderfully liveable city, with a terrific sense of history and tradition and a progressive political climate at the same time. It's a really vibrant city for families, for young people, for those of us in middle age and older. There's a fabulous art culture (and history resources beyond number, though I suspect that'll be of less interest to most law faculty than to me) and beautiful places to live downtown as well as in the "fan," (the 1920s-era suburbs), and further out, too. In addition to U of R, there's Virginia Commonwealth University, which has a very strong faculty and a huge student body, which makes the city feel really young. There's an incredibly sophisticated legal culture (Hunton and Williams, for instance, is headquartered there) and economic culture. Plus, you're close to beach, the mountains, and DC is about two hours away. It's a great place to live. Second, the University, which has a long history (it was founded before the Civil War) has absolutely fantastic leadership. Ed Ayers, the distinguished historian of the nineteenth century South, has done incredible work as president; and Wendy Perdue, who came to the deanship from Georgetown a little more than a year ago, has been a terrific leader for the law school. I know this first-hand because she hired away from UNC one of our star faculty (and one of my closest friends in the academy) this spring.
