I just came across a relatively comprehensive list of top Thanksgiving movies, but it was missing two excellent films with culinary and familial themes: Babette’s Feast (a 1987 Oscar-winner from Denmark that always makes me hungry) and Soul Food (the 1997 film that also included Vanessa Williams as a lawyer). What are some of your favorite foodie films? Happy Thanksgiving!
"Big Night" from 1996 is a good foodie movie starring Tony Shalhoub and Stanley Tucci as brothers running a failing Italian restaurant.

Thanks, Jacquie. I will have to check that one out. One would think there would be more films featuring Italian cuisine as a focal point, but it's usually in the background. But this reminds me of another great familial film: "Moonstruck."

Yes, Jacqueline! Big Night!

Add me to the list of fans of "Big Night."
I'll also suggest Tortilla Soup, Like Water for Chocolate, and Chocolat (not a typo).

Oh yes - I forgot Chocolat! Great film.
And of course Julie and Julia... (What is it about Stanley Tucci and food films?)

I had forgotten about these great films, especially "Julie and Julia" and "Chocolat." Thanks, everyone, for chiming in!

"Tampopo" is a funny Japanese film about food and "What's Up, Tiger Lilly?" is an early Woody Allen movie which centers on the recipe for the perfect egg salad sandwich.

I think I was spammed, due to the repeat of my previous response. Hmmm. I do want to also thank Bill for the reference to "Tampopo," another excellent foodie film. If memory serves, the title refers to noodles. I didn't quite get the ending, but the food looked great. Thanks again, everyone, for responding.
