It hasn't been all that long since Dan Filler posted the last update to his 2007-08 lateral hires list.
Already the 2008-09 hiring season is in full swing. It gives me enormous pleasure to kick off this year's announcements with the news that Robert Mosteller, the Harry R. Chadwick Sr. Professor of Law at Duke Law School, will be joining us here at UNC as the inaugural J. Dickson Phillips Distinguished Professor in fall 2009. The professorship is named for Carolina Law's long-time dean and Fourth Circuit judge J. Dickson Phillips Jr. "This professorship has been reserved for a distinguished scholar with a particular interest in the people and institutions of North Carolina," said UNC's Dean Jack Boger, "and we have found just the right scholar and teacher to hold this position." The UNC Press release is here. Close followers of the biographies of the bloggers here may recall that Dan Filler clerked for Judge Phillips back in 1990-91.
If I might be permitted to make a personal comment, everyone here is most, most excited that Bob's joining us; in addition to being a fabulous scholar and teacher, he's a most generous and engaging colleague. I hope and expect there will be a lot more good news this year from the UNC hiring committee.
